How many more titles will Federer win this year?

Posted by tennisplanet on July 12, 2007

Federer is scheduled to compete in eight more events for the rest of the year. He has four titles so far.

Titles won for the last few years are as follows. The grand total is 49.

2007: 4 and counting.
2006: 12 – 6 (titles won after Wimbledon).
2005: 11 – 3.
2004: 11 – 5.
2003 : 7 – 2.
2002 : 3 – 1.
2001: 1 – 0.

I think he will end the year with seven titles. With two back to back gruelling finals, Federer needs enough time off, to fully recuperate, before heading for the heat and grind of the US Open series.

What I would like to change in tennis.

Posted by tennisplanet on July 12, 2007

1) The freaking schedule. Are you freaking kidding me!!!!!!!!

What is the freaking rationale of having Roland Garros and Wimbledon just two weeks apart? So the clay guy cannot win the Wimbledon? Or we can have our cars washed in the freaking rain at Wimbledon (OK, that was lame)?

Get them apart for crying out loud. How about at least two months apart? Or Wimbledon, when it doesn’t rain? Or is there any such time in UK?

And give players more than just two months off every year. Finish the season a month earlier in October, to avoid all the injuries and provide a well deserved rest to your money-cow, the player.

Cut out the mandatory crap for tournament participation. Just increase the money where you need the top stars to show up, and it will happen on its own, without dragging ‘an about to get injured’ joker out of bed. That will leave players an option to rest if required.

2) The ‘Let’ rule: Just be consistent. If a serve hits the tape, it is to be replayed but not when it happens during the point. What is freaking rationale here? Either both should be replayed or just award the point.

It is heart breaking to see that happening to a player on a break point in the final set. I think it happened to Johannson against Roddick at Wimbledon, two years ago in the semifinal. Or maybe players need to practice that shot to death, to be simply unbeatable.

Yeah!!! Why don’t players practice that shot more, instead of wasting their time improving their overall game? Even if you are able to pull off about five of them per match, you should be ‘sitting’ pretty. Am I brilliant or what? Don’t @#$ mess with my dreams!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s just like practicing a three-pointer in basketball. Even if takes four-hour practice sessions everyday, just to perfect that, it is the path of least resistance with no answer.

3) Time outs: From what we have seen so far, what is next – a beauty salon on the court with a ‘massage’ therapist from Hongkong? Players visiting the restroom right before the match, should be made mandatory, specially those with delicate bladders like Sharapova.

Either that or get the freaking astronaut diapers. If we don’t put our foot down now, this could lead to actual sex on the court to relieve stress and anxiety. Hey, maybe that’s not such a bad idea!!!!!!

4) Hawk-Eye challenges: Who is the knuckle head who decided that players should get only 2 or 3 challenges? Who is this control freak? Give them freaking unlimited challenges, you moron.

What is the rationale here? Players will go wild and start challenging every call? You really think that will happen? Players get booed for smashing rackets. Don’t you think that will get some response from the crowd and prove to be a deterrent, in itself?

Besides, if you have a player who is challenging every call, he needs to be in therapy and not in the middle of a tennis match.

Anyone has more?
