That loss was at the 2001 Basel final to our own Tim Henman – Roger wanted it so much in front of his home crowd. He had to wait a long time for victory, at last he got it in 2006. For sure those tears bring out the maternal instincts – no wonder some of his opponents get confused, they’re not sure whether they’re fighting a vulnerable baby or a ruthless assassin!

What is the deal with the Fed videos on YouTube? They are like romance movies with the music and text.

Federer is such an emotional guy. Thanks for the video, TP. He also cried after he lost to Canas for the second time.

Yeah, some of those YouTube vids are kind of creepy. I imagine them all being done by 17 year old girls. Or at least I’d hope they were only 17…
Jenny, I think it’s kind of cute, and even a bit amusing, that the ruthless assasin cries after wins and losses like that. There was a moment where I thought he was going to lose it again this year, while talking to Sue Barker.

yes, jason, as much as i luv federer, the vids do get embarrassing!

There were definitely tears after Wimbie, not really surprising and the back to front pants showed his temporary loss of composure. He was certainly a bit ‘quivery’ talking to Sue Barker. I think Nadal was on the brink too.

Really? I didn’t know that. Oh, Federer knew that was a key match, after that all those “decline” rumors started.

hey the videos are cute and i like them and Roger is also cute so it is ok.:)

I like Federer’s emotions. I’m embarrassed by them at all. More guys should be more open and not ashamed of their feelings. I even like Marats temper tantrums. I like players that let you in, let you inside to see who they really are.

Roger also cried after his loss to Hewitt in Houston a while back. He didn’t just cry, he shook and sobbed sitting on the sidelines and had to be consoled by others. The next year, he won the Masters in Houston, just as he went on to win Basel last year. This vid is pretty mawky, but it turns women on is some pretty amazing ways. To see a real man be so brutally dominant on the court have soft moments off is, well, sexy.

Oh, and yes, I’m happily married to a Swiss and I’m in my sixties. But I know what I’m looking at….who doesn’t love a young, beautiful man shining in his prime and with character to boot.

Federer also cried after his loss in Madrid against Nalbandian. Can you blame him? After winning the first set 6-1 – he lost two straight. Not a great way to end his year.
FedFan_2007 said
BS, Fed did not cry after the Madrid loss. He was just frustrated. He never cries anymore except after Grand Slam wins.

The other reason he cried so much in Basel in 2001 was that was just shortly after his coach and dear friend Peter Carter died. The trophy was named for Carter so it meant a lot more than most. He was devastated by Carter’s death and losing his home tournament so soon after was very hard.

Gosh he’s adorable!
This is one of the reasons Im hooked on this guy. He’s strong enough to weather the storm (this year) with cool dignity & man enough to cry. Such character strength is quite sexy.
PS: I dont like the irritating music in this video though

Just to correct Blue268 wrote … Peter Carter died in 2002 (August I believe). Roger attended his funeral on his 21st birthday .. 8.8.2002.
I loved Fed’s style of play when I first saw him at Wimbledon 2003 … but became hooked on him when he burst into tears holding the trophy in front of all the cameras and fans. Maybe those tears then were partly in rememberance of Peter Carter who never lived to see Roger’s dream of winning Wimbledon come true. I was very moved when I read that he said “I carry Peter with me every day” and that he often rang Carter’s parents in Australia. He has also invited them to his players box during the AO. I remember reading that the first time he met Carter’s parents after their son’s death was after his Davis Cup defeat to Lleyton Hewitt in Sept 03. He was urged not to get too emotional as that would distress Carter’s parents … no need to say that it was Carter’s parents who ended up comforting Roger! He’s a very sensitive soul … that’s why females find him so attractive.

Haha! RF cries after Aussie Open loss to Rafa! Cry baby – he ruins the moment for the victor! He also cried after his Wimbledon loss! Rafa has to keep apologizing to RF for beating him??!! Be a good sport – it’s not about being a sensitive guy or not – you don’t see others ruining victory moments for the winners like this. Oi!

He cried at the Australian open today. I smiled at him crying in a good way. I felt as sorry for him as possible but also admired what took place. Fed i’ll always think your the best ever. Your a true champion. You fan base will definitly never be outnumbered by any tennis player for another 100 years.
You should be proud that you can make so many people cry with you when you cry.
Another talent you have buddy:)
You will get your 14th, no worries, hang in there.

I totally agree as well. Up until the AO finals ceremony i myself was rooting for federer. but no more! never again!!
Thought it was cool how Rafa put an arm around the cry baby nd consoled him! honestly i think he should have been slapped across the face nd told to grow up instead! bloody hell!
Rafa is number 1 nd was clearly the stronger player that day! He will only get better. I hope he will always play whenever federer is playing so that one day the cry baby will learn to take it like a man!
I hope spectators will give rafa the respect he deserves nd not stand for cry babies spoiling the moment for the winners! once again.. bloody hell!!

@ Neda : I see what u want to say but don u understand that he is a sensitive guy. (Do u understand the word?).. Its in his nature.. Even he can’t possibly change tht (the crying i mean). The victory meant the world to him, he said after the tourney and i believe that players of such stature pursue what they want with relentless effort as the finals shows.
And don take Rafa’s “Sorry” so literally… Its not an apology exactly… Just a way of Rafa commiserating with Roger for his loss and empathizing with him (Like “I know wat u are going thru right now”)..
In tht sense, both displayed the right sportsman spirit.
And in the future, May the best guy win.
