Federer settles in, to dispatch Del Potro in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Federer snuffed any hope, Del Potro may have had to duplicate, what Wawrinka did to Nalbandian, his countryman.
Serving at 67 percent for the match and with 10 aces, Federer made sure there is no third set, in this one. He had played two straight three set matches, losing one of them.
Kiefer is up next. Although he is currently ranked 64, and is 30 years old, both these stats belie his talent and current form. He is looking for a big win in hopes of extending his career, marred with injuries. Federer leads H2H 9-3, but Kiefer has been able to take a set off, in seven of those 12 encounters. Last one at the AO last year.
With Berdych and Gonzalez, looming next, there is nothing to really challenge him big time, unless he stumbles, or maybe Karlovic shows up in the semis. Karlovic has not only been winning tie-breaks, lately, he is starting to win matches, without tie-breaks now. Not a good sign for anyone under 6’10″.

Well done Roger. As talented as Del Potro is, he’s not up to beating Roger just yet. Keifer is a different proposition, so he might have to raise his champ’s level here.
I watched the Karlovic match and was rooting for James. I have to admit I have never seen Karlovic play so well, there were actual rallies in the match, I couldn’t believe it! I bet poor James was shell shocked, because he is the better overall player IMO, but even he couldn’t outplay Karlovic today…sorry James.

I loved a remark made by one of the commentators in the feed I saw. Federer was playing good, but not necessarily great, though he was still hitting some great shots along the way, and they were discussing this and his artistry of play. And the one commentator remarked that it was like looking at a black and white etching as opposed to a full canvas of oils. Not as textured and rich, but still very attractive, nonetheless.
I’m sorry too, James.

I hope James can bounce back for the Davis Cup. I would love to see both he and Andy do well. They have both had an up and down year so far. It would be nice to finish strong. I love Roger, but I have a soft spot for my American guys as well.
