Murray reminds you of Federer? From pommesdesuisse. Thanks.

hey guys…
murray just came through against nieminen…

my question is: what do you think about murray, despite the fact many of you don’t seem to like him.

my bold statement is: he’s incredibly talented. the most talent guy since federer. he’s crazy and seems to almost lose sanity when he’s losing. so that’s a real problem…
he has to ‘grow’ out of that…

but his struggle to convert his enormous potential reminds me of federer at the beginning of his career…he’s still on his way to figure out his own game…

i think murray needs successes and then he probably will find his calm. if he’s not gonna find that he will always stand in his way himself…

probably his defense is not good enough, yet. but…i really think he’s gonna be a top dog once…

LOL Brooke! Thanks a lot for giving this to me and everyone else!!

Good post Pommesdesuisse. Certainly agree, Murray is supremely talented and I do think he will eventually reach top number. I’m not so sure whether he can maintain it on a consistent level though. At the moment he is motivated and fresh where the other players are knackered, they’ll not give him an easy time next season, is he going to be up to the challenge month in month out barring injury of course? However, in my eyes, he doesn’t have the natural grace or artistry of Federer who re-ignited my interest for the game in 2001. We all know he has a temperament problem, so I won’t harp on that, I know Roger was a brat too in the early years, so I’m hoping he can improve in that area.. I don’t know Pommesdesuisse, I would like to see a little more fire and passion rather than this languid persona. This may sound strange folks, accepting the fact he is a great player, and I am a tennis fan, I’m not sure I would stay up all night to watch him.

it is one thing to be talented and other to use most of your talent……i think, since he with gilbert….he is the latter given the kind of brainstorming that goes in gilbert camp….having said that….he is definately a top 6 player

Murray a young Fed? No Way! DEar Pommesdesuisse, you a re a generous man. (I think a man, anyway) LMurray does have shot making, but his style, movement will never be like Fed’s. There is no comparison between the two, if you watch them on court.
It is also debatable if Murray has the ability to last, say in 5-setters. HIs two-handed backhand, which many or most players favour, can add to his physical problems later on. It makes the shot more powerful, but doesn’t have as much finesse as a good one-hander backhand.
To me he looks amazingly awkward, loping along, hitting a stiff -two0-handed shot. I know the game is not all about style, but he does manifest weaknesses.
It is generous of you to make this comparison, and I appreciate that… however, other than his shotmaking, I don’t think he will ever reach Fed’s skills and level of play.
However, he will be a good player. Just not that good.

    first of all:
thanks for your kind comments. i was almost on the way to drown myself in the kitchen sink ;-)

well…after considering what i said before i have to admit that you are right…

it’s just that i like his ability of shot-makings out of the blue, and how he can change the pace (which is the same thing actually…)-

i just like his style. the way he hits the ball comes so naturally… but there’s another case, as well, quite similar to murray’s, which shows that talent is not enough. it’s baghdatis. he’s very talented, too, but losing way too often…

so as mentioned: consistency is what makes champions.

no TP…he doesn’t remind of federer, anymore…(don’t know what was riding me!)
i mean…we’re talking ’bout the GOAT here, aren’t we?! ;-)

BTW, Pommesdesuisse – don’t forget Richard Gasquet is known as Baby Fed – now I do enjoy watching him, not as graceful as Fed, but he has style IMO.

I agree, there are similaries between
Federer and Murray. Murray can be a N0
1 player, he is young, with time in his
favour, and all the necessary tennis skills
in his arsenal. Provided he stays focus,
and disciplined, he has the ideal Coach,
therefore beeing N0 1 should be his GOAL
I look forward with interest to his continued
    development.
