Can this Davis Cup win, inspire bigger things?

Posted by tennisplanet on December 1, 2007

Both Roddick and Blake, can use this once in a lifetime dream win, to propel them next season. It’s got to be a great confidence booster for both.

Blake must be greatly inspired, having received a memorable gift at the tail end of his career. He still has enough game on the fast surface, to use this, to make some serious noise, at least in the first few months.

Roddick, on the other hand, could have received his second wind, with this victory. He is still one of the main contenders on the tour. Now that he has achieved, seemingly his first tennis love, maybe his passion to box the monkey from his back, will gain some traction.

History is proof, that at times, the second coming, proves to be more satisfying and illustrious, than the original spurt. He will need some help from Federer, to complete the circle, though.

Nevertheless, it is an encouraging step, if kept in perspective, to post some serious gains next season. Connors, should use it for all it’s worth, to take one last shot, at the big stage.

Additionally, Querrey, Isner and others, cannot help, but receive enough heat from distance, to stir dreams of them emulating the feat one day. Competition within a country, among athletes, more often than not, has produced mega stars.

Sampras, Agassi, Chang, Courier, Todd, etc. may have benefited the most, from that phenomenon. Blake and Roddick may have tasted the fruit themselves.

This win somehow, makes US tennis look good, if not spectacular. That there is a pulse, and is capable of generating some hope, at least.

US clinches Davis Cup title, after a 12-year drought.

Roddick has achieved one of his childhood dreams. As the No. 1 player in the country, it brings a lot of relief and happiness to him.

Maybe the passion he has shown for the Davis Cup title, has not been equalled on the regular tour, partly because of the damp called Federer.

It’s a great win for USA, what with all the talk of US tennis being in shambles. All four players fully deserve it. It’s probably the first time, that US has won the title, without having one of its own, holding the top rank in singles.

Doubles No. 1 may have been more important this time. Bryan sisters were the most automatic of all the wins.

Great job, guys. We are proud of you. Thank you.

You think you got problems?

Did you know that in Darfur, at the food disbursement site, a family has two options, to get food to feed itself?

1. Send your men. Result: They will be killed, by the militia camped nearby.

2. Send your women: Result: They will be raped, but will come back with food.

If you are riding the tiger of money, power and fame, get the @#$% off of it, before you are devoured to your toes.

Blake wins, barely, to make it a foregone conclusion.

Posted by tennisplanet on December 1, 2007

Russian coach’s decision to withdraw Davydenko from the singles, looked stupid even before the commanding 2-0 US lead, but now, it appears a valid excuse to accept fresh applications for his position.

What in the freaking world are you thinking? Gambling? Well, you succeeded in gambling, but lost your livelihood in return. Davydenko would certainly have given more trouble to Roddick, despite everything.

And you put him in doubles against the No. 1 team in the world, who have lost just one match in Davis Cup in 13 appearances? You should have known, that a 0-2 deficit will be impossible to overcome, if doubles is what you were depending on.

What a dumb move.

Blake called his win over Youzhny the best of his career or something? Are you freaking kidding me!!!!!!!!!!

This should have been the worst win of your career. What else do you freaking need? You have the whole stadium packed with pro-American fans, you are at home with a court designed specially to suit your game, you are up 1-0.

And you come out with three freaking tie-breaks? With your dismal record in five-setters, it was a hairline, that separated you, from being a loser of the top order.

Geeeeeeeeeeeez!!!!!! If all that positive stuff, managed to produce this kind of sub-par play from your racket, don’t humiliate yourself and your country, by even playing on the tour next year. Just freaking retire, and save us the embarrassment.

The crap you left on the court, seems to have rubbed off on the Bryan sisters. They have just won the first set, with a freaking tie-break. You’ve got to be freaking kidding me.

Fellows, don’t make this win look like a loss, for God’s sake. Have some pride.

Federer plans to play 20 events next year.

Posted by tennisplanet on December 1, 2007

Is that a good idea, considering the potential the year has, to propel you to a stratosphere of your own, your ‘advanced’ age, and what all happened this season?

Wouldn’t it be better to tone it down a little, instead of jacking it up?

Or is it the case of throwing everything on the wall, and hoping a good percentage will stick? Not a good year, to attempt that.

No one can fault someone like Federer, if he decided to be extremely selective this year. But some may question the excessive spurt in activity now. He has not played as many events since 2003.

But as they say ‘nothing succeeds like success’. It won’t take too long, to determine where the change is heading to, though.
