Federer wins again without dropping a set.

Federer won again despite rain delays and erratic play in the first set. It appears he is unable to find the desperately needed rhythm to force the train back on tracks.
He was playing No.146th ranked wild card from Portuguese who had just completed his rain delayed match from the previous round. But despite all that, the wild card joker was able to earn five break points on Federer’s serve. He was able to convert two of them.
Federer was able to earn seven break points, converting five of them for a healthy 71 percent. Besides, Federer first serve percentage improved considerably from the mid 50’s in the previous two matches to 70 percent here. These were some of the positives for Federer, in a match that clearly indicates that Federer is still struggling.
After all this was 146th ranked wild card who had just completed a rain delayed match from the previous round. At least one bagel was in order with no sniffs at service breaks, absence of either one of them signals some serious work ahead, for both Jose and Federer.
Federer will next face Denis Gremelmayrfor the first time since 2005 Bangkok on Saturday, after the German World No. 104 reached his maiden ATP semifinal with a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Czech Jiri Vanek.
Davydenko is not home free either. He was extended to a three setter, although it was tad better than Federer, considering it was against a seeded player (7) ranked 55th in the world. But it took him two hours and 31 minutes to get through.
It appears the role is consistently being reversed at every freaking tournament Federer has played so far. Federer is the one in need of tougher quality opponents to round off the edges in his game to reverse this decline curse, but that invariably seems to be happening on the other side of the draw to players who would prefer what Federer is running into.
The walk overs, players retiring and rain delays are keeping Federer back from getting any kind of momentum to build on. It’s like one step forward with another one back. It’s difficult to accurately pinpoint the areas to improve on, and also to gauge the improvements made on the blueprint discussed at the drawing board. It’s a nightmarish situation if you are a coach, specially when you have such a small window to show results and validate your appointment to the greatest player to ever pick up a racket. Talk about pressure!!!!!!!!
Sometimes staring at the barrel of the gun results in glorious flight to stations that couldn’t have been even imagined otherwise. At other times, the pot crumbles like that proverbial pack of cards. This may be about time for the world to find out where these two jokers stand after the dust settles.

Ditto Gracie, only match I’ll see on TV is the final on Tennis Channel.
Wish TP would tell us how he is seeing this match live. Maybe, that would give us a clue as to who he is??? One guess is he travels covering the ATP tournaments. A while back I asked for pictures at some tournament and I remember TP (or maybe it was another “freak”) sending them to my e-mail address! I really think he is working for ATP or in some other job directly related to tennis. What do the rest of you think??
Come on TP e-mail who you are and I promise I won’t tell anyone!!!! I hate not knowing!

The myp2p stream, or whatever it’s called, that TP has in the listing on the left works. The resolution is horrendous, but you can catch much more than scoreboard watching.

Roger is playing very well as he continues to recover from his serious illness, mononucleosis. To be honest, he amazes many of us as to how well he is playing. We wish him all of the very best.

I watched the match and I have to say, it was great. True, it was more difficult in the first set but it appeared to be a concentration problem. As soon as he started concentrating more on the game, it was really easy for him. The second set, after he got broken, was like watching the best of Federer. He only lost 3 points in the whole second set after he got broken at 0-1! that’s huge. Even the commentators on eurosport said that he was playing like in the MC against Ferrer, he was unbeatable and there was nothing Gil could do. And you’re right about saying that Gil is a WC and he had just played that same morning, but that actually gave him an edge. He said at the press conference that his win that morning gave him confidence, feeling the crowd was really rooting for him and not so nervous about playing the number 1 like he would have been if he had to think about it all night. Plus, he knows this court by heart, he plays there all year, is used to the weather conditions and is just at home. Anyway, Federer actually played a great match during the second set and can be satisfied with his performance, despite the lack of bagel (6-1 is not enough for you?).

my feeling is that TP is a sports resporter for ESPN and is specifically covering tennis. Maybe his real name initial is also TP, which you may guess what T and P stand for. this is my guess though.
I also think that Federer has been playing better and better, and hope he wins this title tomorrow and many more others later, esp the RG and Wimb.

Claire – Are you sure about this Tennis Channel coverage? I keep searching, but I don’t see it. The only final I see them covering on Sunday is the one in HOUSTON…
