LOL, thanks Sol and Jenny - for a moment, I thought I'd blacked out for a few years too! AK does play team tennis, but that's about it. She's more famous for having those 'barely-out-of-her-teens' little girl looks turned into a pedophile's dream pin-up than for anything she ever did in tennis. And btw, the two GS doubles titles were won with Martina Hingis, who I suspect could have just as easily taken those titles with just about ANY partner in '99 and 2000.

To illustrate how actual tennis fans favor actual players over pin-ups: at the USO I was among a mob of fans watching a doubles match, which had been relegated to an outer court because of rain earlier in the day. People were even hanging over the top of the bleachers in the adjoining stadium (where another match was being played!) just to get a look. When it was over and Anna K exited the court, she was at first, the focus of everyone's attention - until a moment later when Martina Navratilova emerged after her - at which point, the swarm of people immediately turned like a gaggle geese, calling out her name and following her through the tennis center, jockeying for autographs, leaving poor little Anna almost forgotten.

"If she ever quits tennis, I’m sure there is a career as a fashion model or some other business opportunity awaiting her..."

When was this written? What does he mean "if" she ever quits? She hasn't played officially since 2003 if I'm not mistaken. So how can she still qualify as a tennis icon? and "She wins Grand Slams but doesn’t win Wimbledon itself". What GS did she ever win? She hasn't won any title in her career in singles, only in doubles. Is it me or is there something wrong with this article?

Anna who? The only real tennis playing "Anna" I ever heard of is Ana Ivanovic.
Well actually, come to think of it I think there was once a Russian pin-up girl named Anna Kournikova, but I didn't think she ever really played tennis...

I still believe she wasn't marketed as much in her playing days as Sharapova and Ivanovic now. But the first is always the best and so is Anna Kournikova.
