Shouldn’t Roddick go out swinging?

I mean, he is not getting to No. 1, he’s not winning another Grand Slam, the ranking issue is virtually dead. There’s nothing to freaking lose now.
Isn’t this the ideal time to be incorporating shots you have been shying away from because of the pressure of maintaining the rank, winning a Slam or whatfreakingever?
Go for that down the line backhand shot every freaking time. Come to the net more. Work on the ridiculous Federer-like angles from your forehand to shorten the points. Go more for the lines. Play some high risk tennis. Drop shots, lobs? Break the freaking rules. Why not?
You are not protecting anything so why not try new and exciting stuff? Who knows you may hit the vein of gold lying dormant due to high expectations and proximity to the big prize.
Isn’t that better at this point than bringing out the same old lame, ineffective, middle of the court, safe, every freaking cucumber knows BS? Change it up and enjoy it more. You have no freaking choice.
Either that or make yourself even more miserable watching the bus travel south in a hurry.

He could fight for the top only when he had the energy of a 21 year old. I will not forget Roddick in 2003. But that was it.

I don’t agree with everything you say, but this was dead on! Flatter shots and hit them early, not 10 feet behind the baseline!

Who’s Andy Roddick?

Wow Mike, how long are you going to continue with that tired old joke? Anyway, I agree with you TP. I have been yelling these same things to Andy for years, through the T.V. of course, but to no avail. His return of serve is vanilla as well. I don’t know if he can return any better, but I know he can go for more angles and play more high risk tennis. The down the middle shots, waiting fot the opponent to make a mistake doesn’t cut it anymore. These guys are too good and they are taking the chances with pretty successful results.

I agree with Ricke here. lol I’m glad I’m not the only one screaming at the TV! Actually I’d like to see Andy play more on red clay.

woahhhh this is just a ridiculous thing to write! has nobody been watching any of andy’s recent mathches??? you know the ones where he has got to the final of two tournaments in a row? or the match where he just won a tournament in japan? orrrrr the match where he got to the final in tokyo? obviously not and even if you havent had a chance to view these matchs maybe you could actually check his website which will prove everything. and btw andy has now got one of the best passing shots and backhands in the whole of the mens game! and obviously the serve and he has also been running into the net way more then he used to. andy is really improving dramatically in my view and il never loose faith in him cuz to me he is one of the best tennis players there ever was and you dont need to have 13 grand slam titles to do that all you need is the personality and thats what you will be remembered for…
