Two words that will determine the winner of most titles next season.

Posted by tennisplanet on October 6, 2008

Physical freaking endurance. Why more next season than any other?

Because for anyone to win a ‘loaded field’ title next year, he has to play at least three finals if not four, back to back. Why? Because of the talent bunching up at the top. Del Potro has already reached No. 9 with others to follow surely by March next year if not earlier.

Other than the top four, there will now be at least three more legitimate contenders by the time Australian Open rolls around, not to mention the perennial dangerous floaters like Tsonga, Berdych, Fish etc.

Translation: Quarterfinals and up the schedule will look like you are at a finals match at any other era. All this means the clown who comes out with the least fatigued pair of legs through the ordeal will win it. Talent may not be that big of a component in your shield to corner most titles next season.

By year end next season the top ten should look something like this:

Nadal

Djokovic

Murray

Federer

Del Potro

Querrey

Serena

Gulbis

Cilic

Tsonga

As things can change so quickly, I’m not making any predictions. In terms of talent, I’m waiting for Verdasco to start holding himself together and step up to the plate.
