Federer, you are playing with fire.

Posted by tennisplanet on October 13, 2008

My famous quote “All the world loves a winner and has no time for the loser” is about to kick in.

Either get your house in order (and by now we don’t give a rat’s ass how you are going to go about achieving that) and start winning again or just get out of the way.

We don’t have the time to be cooking up excuses and alibis every time you fall flat on your face against a tomato can anymore. You are now running on fumes and if the lease of life you got after winning the US Open is not exploited to the hilt to bring the train back on the tracks, expect a massive exodus of fans.

History is proof that the adoration of fans is predicated largely on the ‘W’. All other BS comes after. Sure there will be some die hard fans but that’s a minuscule minority.

Winning is all that matters. If your moves moving forward are laced with any other consideration, you are doomed even before you start.

This year you have actually won just ONE title with 12 losses, compared to eight solid ones from your arch rival.

We don’t want to hear about how you are feeling or you are taking a rest or you don’t have a coach or Wawrinka is not putting out, or cutting hair is getting too expensive whatfreakingever.

If you are not winning, you are losing big time. At 27 that’s pathetic.

    Heh.
    A few nerves there, TP?

A little Hangar One is good for that.
    Straight.

I always have a reminder in my PDA to put it in the freezer 2 days before start of tournament, so I never have to drink it warm. :D

    Hey, take it easy –

TMF has won fans’ heart big time. They’ll love him forever no matter what.

I agree, I’m so over I’m too tired, I get why he’s tired, he had Mono, it takes a while to get over it, and he needs rest. He needs to take just take the rest and not play Madrid, why would he play Madrid and spend the whole presser telling us how tired he is.

I’d tell you to chill, but that’s not your temperament. He’s playing, which means he thinks he can win. But he doesn’t want to commit himself to every tournament through the end of the year. Big deal. If he were to miss TMC, I’d say there was a real problem, but that is unlikely.

As a fan, I consider this fall a wash at best, so any tournament he’s in is a good week. If I recall, after the Olympics you were advocating a career as a doubles player so you’re known to be a bit… ummm… erratic, where Fed’s concerned.

Still love coming to this site, though!

TP – you say it’s 8-1 this year for Rafa, but really, for all that matters, in the really big picture of things, its just 2-1 for him. 2-1, with the edge being 9-7 in the fifth set of the final of Wimby.

You say it yourself – all that really matters for Fed now is the Slams. I know you like to hit Fed every post to draw a reaction from us, and that’s fine, but by your own standards for Fed now (in this new stage of his career) he has done quite well this year if you think about it.

Nadal’s best year yet, by far. A history making year, many would say. And yet, when we measure what really matters, the Slams, even in this history making year for him, all he could do is overcome Fed by the slightest of margins overall. If Nadal was so great this year, which he was indeed, does our admiration of that greatness also not have to include an additional FREAKING HUGE nod again to the greatness of that Swiss guy you enjoy putting down so much?

I go along with Cms here. I think Fed fans, and I’m proud to be one of them, have to get used to the fact that Roger will cherry pick more as time goes on. If Roger feels the need to rest, so be it, for goodness sake the man has been at the top of the tree for a long time and he’s still #2! I like to see a healthy, firing Fed, rather than a tired, lacklustre Fed losing to some opponents he should be beating. I think he will concentrate on slams more. When I get to see Roger play it’s a great bonus, but neither do I switch off if he isn’t playing. I just enjoy great tennis whoever’s playing.

Federer: get your 27 year old ass away from this small tournament!! What the hell do you think you’re doind??

Go golfing, and come back next year. Stop kissing up to ATP, who steals your intellectual property over that logo, and pays you miserably for such a ridiculous career!

Why do you think ATP has to come up with meaningless paraphernalia like “terracota warriors” crap? You are too big for this! Get away!

TP, do hope Federer does not read BS like this your post. You are the strangest Fedfan I have ever met.
You’d better explain us why Gulbis wasted the match that was totally his in straight sets? Too young? Son of wealthy parents, as you mentioned recently?

Anon #3: Concerning excuses, pressers, etc. Yes, I’d prefer him to say a bit less also. Maybe, nothing at all. But, needless to recall, any post-match interview or presser, especially post-defeat, is purely commercial demand from media. WHATEVER you say after a defeat can be treated as an excuse. If you say: well, he played unbelievable! – then it sounds like “so, probably, nobody would be able to beat him today”. If, on the contrary, you say smth like “It simply was not my day” – it sounds even worse, so on. Nevertheless, players MUST give some chewing gum to MASSES – but not to true tennis lovers (the latter see all they need on court).

As for Federer, I suppose, he, from his top, can speak whatever he wants about his state, plans, intentions, reasons, etc.

I’m sorry, but this post you made, TP, doesn’t reflect what I think at all!
I’m just lucky to be able to see him play whenever he wants

What i wish for him is that he continue to enjoy playing the game and not feel pressured to do so.
