More Federer vs Simon. From TuckerP. Thanks.

TUCKERP
Federer’s back is hurting. He doesn’t want to admit it, because his opponent will take advantage of that. He should not be playing Masters Cup, and he doesn’t need to injure himself before the Australian Open. I noticed how he hit everything while pretty much standing still. His strokes lack the fluid whip-like motion, and his forehand stroke looks completely different. For those of you who didn’t watch the match…

Federer vs Roddick @ TMC.
Posted by tennisplanet on November 11, 2008
Roddick is not winning anything here. Can he salvage it by at least ‘improving’ his miserable 2-15 H2H record against Federer? Can there be any better time to accomplish that? How about in straight sets? I don’t think Roddick can even imagine that let alone realise it on the court.
But it could be the most even handed battle the two have had in a long time with odds about even. Federer’s back may not allow those returns on Roddick bombs he has been so nonchalantly executing, at times even registering more aces than Roddick.
But Roddick does not have the ability to move Federer the way Simon was able to. But if Roddick’s first serve percentage stays in the upper 60′s and Federer gets overly conscious of his back, it will be difficult to break Roddick, for most probably Federer will pop up a balloon for Roddick to squish mercilessly.
Conversely if Federer keeps up his pattern of hitting the net on his first serves instead of the court and Roddick’s backhand doesn’t let him down, because all of Federer’s second serves will be at Roddick’s backhand – Roddick may close this one more comfortably than he did the Miami three setter 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in an hour and 55 minutes. That will bring him to a whopping 3-15.
But Federer is still thinking of Gonzalez and is hoping to turn it around to tie at least one record with Sampras – 5 year-end titles.
BTW Federer, the reason you did not feel anything with your back against Simon was due to those painkillers. When you are done here, probably tomorrow, lay off those pills to enjoy the ride.
But if Simon is able to evoke 50 unforced errors, irrespective of the reason(s), even if you get by Roddick, the climb thereafter is a vertical one with Murray and Djokovic to follow. You will have to pull out another US Open-like rabbit to bag this one.
Nevertheless, despite whatever water has flown under the bridge since they both were once billed rivals, this match-up still evokes a great fan response and curiosity. It’s a good test for both to guage where they are on that scale today.

Djokovic vs Davydenko at Shanghai 2008.

Djokovic forces a bagel down his own throat before winning.
Posted by tennisplanet on November 11, 2008
What’s freaking going on? Murray did the same BS yesterday against Roddick.
How can you lose concentration and focus so miserably to not even win a single freaking game? You have to be ‘not there’ mentally to slide so precipitously before waking up. Is winning the first set handily the culprit along with the shock of being kicked out of the event? Sure it is.
Djokovic must be feeling pretty happy considering what’s going on all around him lately. Both Del Potro and Davydenko wins are quite significant in many ways to bolster his confidence from the near rock bottom it has been since the mid point mark of this season.
And is it possible for these ATP clowns to make it easy for us to figure out who is who on the scoreboard here.? Geeeeeeeeeeezzzzzz!!!!!!

Is the tour deliberately designed to guarantee new balls at the top every few years to keep fans entertained?
Posted by tennisplanet on November 11, 2008
Quite possible. Don’t you think?
Why else would you continue to churn out the same hectic circuit despite evidence of top players getting hurt year after year eventually breaking down completely by the time they reach age 26?
Or what is the rationale of having tournaments all over the freaking world? OK if it’s to involve fans all over the globe, why not allot a certain part of the year for some selected area of the world. That way clowns are not shuttling from one end of the globe to the other adding to the already tight schedule to wear out the players so early in their career.
Remember when Sampras and Agassi almost became a couple showing up at practically every finals of a significant tournament around the world? And fans started screaming ‘New balls, please’?
Did they beat the system and beat all expectations?
So the recent changes in the schedule and court surfaces are just the most recent attempts by ATP to ensure that does not happen again?
If everything is monetarily driven, it’s hard to imagine if it was beneficial other way around that these knuckleheads at ATP would have found a way to reverse this trend.
So by those standards Federer has already overstayed his welcome and the spiral downwards only means fresher blood and ‘Benjamins’ to the coffers of these greedy cats?
