wow, yeah he was a monster in his prime. I dont see why he cant get back there, like agassi did late in his career. I wanta see less unforced errors, a consistent serve, and deeper groundstrokes. And last but not least a mental game that won him 13 GS! If he does these things this he has a chance to make an incredible historical run we all want him to do one last time.
Lets go Roger! This is for the record books. You go down as GOAT and we can say we witnessed you do it!
I still say he takes down the Aussie open.

Of course, when an entire match is telescoped into 3.5 minutes, with the emphasis on the juicy bits, a certain impression is conveyed, is it not, which is perhaps not entirely representative of the match as a whole. Federer’s backhand, of late, has actually been a lot more reliable, both on the offence and the defence, than his forehand.

I have to go along with Grendel. Fed was only 18 in this clip and Kafelnikov won the match I believe.

It’s not the aggressive backhand that’s non-existent today…it’s the aggressive serve-and-volley style that Kafelnikov employed that’s non-existent today, that’s what brought out the aggressiveness of Federer’s backhand at that time. Nowadays everyone waits at the baseline so Federer can’t pick them off with his backhand as easily. You’re way off on this one TP.

Good points Grendel and Mordecai.
What I noticed most in that clip was his movement. Nowhere near as fluid, graceful and balletic as it now.

as it IS now!

I love watching Federer’s footwork on these clips.. he looks so agile and eager.
