Nadal decides to change his priorities..

The rest of his 2009 schedule: Montreal and then Cincinnati, U.S. Open, Bangkok, China, Shanghai, Paris and London Masters

Revised: Cinci, Montreal, USO, Paris and London are mandatory so he’ll play those instead of the others.

Its about time :) Can’t wait to see him back in action! It would be awesome if he came back and wins the US Open and year end Championships!

I’m curious to see what his schedule will look like at the begining of next year. Less CC tourneys, no?

I agree Roddick4TheWin. I think he’ll come back and do just fine :D I’m glad he finally decided to “trim” his schedule. Vamos Rafa :D

    I will wait and see.

I don’t think it will be that easy for Nadal to come back during the summer. His taken a mighty fall with this injury and mentally it will not be easy for him to get going again.

Nadal can do anything. Never count him out.

For 2009 he is aiming for the USO and YEC. Period.

Next year he will eliminate all non-essentials like Rotterdam, Barcelona, Monte Carlo

I doubt he’ll eliminate Barcelona, it’s his home tourney, Rafa would never live it down in Spain, the man has a Spanish heart! It would be like asking Roger to give up Basel. I suspect he’ll look carefully at the non mandatory hard courts next year given his knee condition.

He is still young. But this would be a good solution because of his style of play.

I don’t like the way he choses to speak again on the eve of a GS final to which he doesn’t participate. Bad spirit and bad behaviour.

      oh puleaze!

I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s “bad spirit and bad behavior” but, as it is indeed the second time he has done this, it does make you wonder a bit. Basically three possibilities exist in my view:

      a) the timing, on both occasions, is totally coincidental and means absolutely nothing – in this scenario at the very worst Rafa is a bit thoughtless and inconsiderate

      b) the timing was not intentionally thought about in any way, but perhaps represents something on a subconscious level (defensive mechanism to potentially losing Number 1…) – in this scenario at the very worst Rafa is a bit jealous

      c) the timing was intentionally thought about as a way to screw with Fed’s mind on the eve of the Wimbledon final – in this scenario, at the very worst, Rafa is a poor sportsman

      I think (c) is unliklely.

To me, it’s somewhere between (a) and (b) – probably closer to (a)

lol, that’s some biased drizzle if ever I saw it.

Try to not show it so much and include an option D: it’s doesn’t freakin matter when he says crap – he wants want to hear from him asap and he does this for them.

I responded to this a day ago but for some reason the response got lost in the system.

Anyway, Blake, basically all I said was that your answer kind of falls within my a). Not a big deal, but I think a mere 24 hour delay in Rafa’s announcement would have been nicer.

Having said that, the main point of my post was actually to counter Ricky’s post above.

In other words, we are not in a big disagreement on this one Blakester. Relax! Have a pepsi.

        p.s.
Math review from our last battle
        6 plus 8 = 14
        Oh wait – things have changed — 6 plus 9 = 15
Go over that one hard Blakey

Smart move. Finally. Too bad he (or whoever it is who decides these things for him) had to go through this to finally make a change. Makes me think of something Isabel Allende, the author, said: “la experiencia es lo que se obtiene justo despues de que uno la necesita”, for those of you who understand spanish. (sorry I don’t like to translate, too scared of losing something in the translation)

Will be so happy to have Rafa back in tournaments – I missed you at Wimbledon Rafa!

That’s good news. I hope he’ll stick to that revised schedule, because knowing Rafa, he loves playing a lot of matches.

Sorry to disagree but I sure do not believe Rafa has any chance at all to win the USO.
