Everyone has been writing off American tennis… the USA was represented in the womens final, the womens doubles, the mens doubles and the Junior finals… hmmmm not too shabby!

am I the only one who thinks the outcome of that final was decided yesterday over the dinner table ?
That wasn’t the Venus we’ve seen for the last 2 weeks — about 39% first serves in the second set, no footwork at all, no visits to the net—- and playing in the doubles as if it was no big deal to lose — she was the better player in the doubs, I think.

Certainly looked that way to me. Obviously the Williams both deserved to be in the final and for that they should be congratulated. However, there is always a hint of suspicion over the outcomes of their matches IMO. They will probably end up winning the same number of Wimbledon titles each – coincidence? Nevertheless, if womens tennis wasn’t in the sad state it is in today, they both wouldn’t be making so many grass finals together.

Why so much Serena hate? She’s an amazing player — the rest of the tour should have her nerves of steel and desire to win (looking at you Safina and Ivanovic).

That said, I was unhappy with her presser today. She was very unsportsmanlike regarding Safina and the ranking system. Nasty stuff.

Still, great win today. Three of the four last GSs. Bravo!

I agree with your comments about her press conference. Being all jokey about Safina winning Madrid and Rome was rude. While I get it that its not great that Safina is No 1 without a grand slam it is true that she wins on the tour week in week out. Serena obviously plays a lot less tournaments so her ranking suffers. She plays fiercely when she enters but by playing less tournaments she is well rested. The other players who are out there week after week are often tired and cannot do their best due to the physical demands of playing so many tournamnts. I’m not seeing anything in this new “road map” that is making it any better.

I agree, Serena is an amazing player. However, she can cherry pick at 27yrs old, is good enough to do so, and with slams under her belt too. As Stella says, she is much more rested, whilst a younger, less confident player has to go through the hard slog, but at the end of the day it’s the points that count.

And at the end of the day… Serena is on top! And Dianara knows it. :)

It was a great 1st set. They both played their best tennis. What did you think about that shot- supposed to be a thundering smash on match point? Serena just pushed it in the middle of the court. seemed like a pity shot to me – saying I really don’t want to break you two times sis. I can do this on my serve. You deserve a better score line.So here we go. take it.

I saw that shot and thought the same thing. No one else but Venus would have got that shot back from Serena. Venus didn’t have any movement at all, she was slipping all over the court.

I wonder if Serena bought that tee-shirt before she found out she woudn’t be ‘#1′ if she won :]

I think Serena is a great tennis player and all but she is a bit full of herself. I find that I have trouble going for her in matches and I’ll all start going for the other player without being able to help it… my little sister likes her though.

Why do the men get a masive trophy and the women only get a plate?
