This is the sixth time that Federer and Woods have won titles on the same day. It’s the second time this year.

can anyone tell me is it an apple-apple comparison. Does golf have same 4 grandslams a year? Reading the article it seems that Tiger did’nt win some slams but some other events and it still counted towards their number??

Yes, golf has 4 “Majors” each calendar year:

      The Masters
      The U.S. Open
      The British Open
      The PGA Championship

All of Tiger’s current total of 14 have
      come from these events only.

As far as how it compares to tennis in terms of the
degree-of-difficulty to win one or more of them,
consider this: for the last decade or so,
Tiger’s main rival has been Phil Mickelson,
who so far has accumulated 3 Majors.

Yet, in the handful of years before Tiger
started his run, a pot-bellied alcoholic
like JOHN DALY was able to win 2 Majors.

So, being an excellent ATHLETE is definitely
not mandatory in golf, whereas it is in Men’s tennis.

Additionally, let’s not forget that great physical specimen, Craig “The Walrus” Stadler. Former Masters winner who looks like the local bowling partner of Homer Simpson for crying out loud.

Tiger often has mediocre early rounds and can come storming back on days three and four. If Roger has a mediocre early round, he’s out of the tournament.
