dont understand. r u suggesting that an imposter shape-shifted into noles body to win 3 of last 4 events? including beating fed & nadal on way? how cud it not b “real”?
Alex said
he’s saying the other part of the his season begs the differ
but who knows…
we’ll see
jennifur said
well thanks alex. as to the other part of season …… well he did suck @ slams, only getting 2 semis at uso. but his 2007/08 runs @ slams suggest he can do better. part of it was down 2 the dumb racquet change + questionable fitness both of which seem fixed. anyhow as u say, we’ll see.

nole is seasonal but he could have evolved. Who really knows for sure.Time would tell.

Well, I saw him playing a really good match.( Even though I didn’t like his gestures)Is this about whether he continues his performance, I think he might.

I always thought Novak was the real deal, he’s very talented. He did lose his way a little, but I think he’s well back on track now, provided he remains fit and focused. I can see him reaching #2 next year.

May be Jenny san. But he seemed to have problems at times. Now with new coaching and new training he is doing well. But I think I shall wait more and see.
I do think Nadal san will be ok soon. However I do agree he is indeed talented. But I still do not warm up to him.

Might be…
But I also saw quite familiar things, means the good old choking. Today he played against another choker, imo, and last week against a poorly performing Federer…
Yes, we’ll see…

The run is real, but wrong time to peak, means no good for AO, not looking far.

It’s very solid, painful and freakish stuff. It’s very real.

cud watch this2 decide, rafa not playin bad, nole playin gr8:
Sol said
He played some of the best tennis I’ve ever seen him play. And what’s more, he was consistent throughout the entire match (then again, it didn’t last that long), something he couldn’t do against Monfils. I have often watched Fed, Nadal and even Murray, and thought “there’s no way to beat this guy”. I never felt that while watching Djoko. That match was the only time.
jennifur said
it was exceptional. his last match against nadal at cincy was similar but rafa was coming off injury so tough to gage. his a.o. against fed was gr8 too.
mircea said
He won last year in Shanghai and then had spotty results in 2009. Maybe he’s become more consistent. Maybe like Nadal, he peaks and fades.
The standard still remains 4 majors/4 finals. How many times has Federer done that? 2006? 2007? 2009? Consecutive Major finals? French 4. Australia 2. Wimbledon 7. US Open 6.
Real deal is having a year like that. Everything else is being an impostor or excelling in impersonation, especially when mommy calls you my little king! Then again, Nole mastered the art of impersonation a long time ago…..
Jenny said
The thing is, Federer is unique, a one-off of his generation, we may never see the like of him for quite some years to come [I refuse to use GOAT]. You can’t compare Novak to him thus far, or even with Nadal who got his first big one at 18, and 6 slams at his age is pretty good going by anyones standards. Novak’s only 22, Fed is 28, give the guy time.
jennifur said
exactly jenny. moreover why is fed the “standard” or “real deal” – in fact feds run has been an exception in every way. hes not the measuring stick. hes off it. so go more by past champs who maybe won a few slams. that will be the norm going forward.
mircea said
ever hear of monetary gold standard? pretenders? fakes?
If mommy tells the world you have inherited the throne and you are wearing crown and mantel, then you had better improve on the old king’s accomplishments. So, if we can’t compare Djokovic to Federer – that would be cruel, wouldn’t it- you have anyone else in mind? Kafelnikov? Stich? Kraijcek? Chang? Courier? Bruguera? Kuerten?
Finally, if you’re going to impersonate someone, you might as well learn to play as well as they do and measure up to their success. Then again Djokovic set really high standards for impersonation. I think he’s unbeatable in that category. Might even get an Oscar.
jennifur said
sigh… what can u say when someone hates someone? its impossible to reason.
there are many many excellent players whove won 5 or 6 slams. if nole can do that, gr8 4 him.
your logic is flawed 2.
if one king takes over from another, he doesnt hv to surpass the previous ones accomplishments. that doesnt mean hes not the new king or new number 1 or cant b wearin the mantel. many players hv been no#1 since sampras was and MOST didnt surpass his accomplishments but they were still number1’s, i.e. kings of the sport.
fed/sampras were exceptions to the rule in the sports history, thats OBVIOUS.

I have FIRMLY in my mind that Djokovic
has already left Krajicek in the dust —
please tell me that you do, too!
By the time he finally retired in 2003,
Krajicek had played in 40 GS Singles competitions,
making it as far as the quarters 9 times,
making it as far as the semis 4 times,
making it as far as the finals 1 time [ winning it ].
Djokovic thus far has played in only 20 GS competitions,
making it as far as the quarters 10 times,
making it as far as the semis 7 times,
making it as far as the finals twice [ winning 1 of them ].
Talk about “can’t compare”…

I don’t exactly agree with your posts about Djokovic, Mircea. But they’re funny. Are you sure you’re not MIKE?
Claire said
Right with you Mircea, the exact words were “The King is Dead long live the King” That is come from an adult who used those words several times. Soo, I decided I can’t fault Djokovic for some things he has said in the past – you live what you learn (from your parents).
I think this year Djokovic has let his racket do the talking; I also think we have seen him mature – with a few slip ups now and then;- of course Federer has always acted mature in all aspects of his life! (NOT)!

I also feel kids can’t be responsible for what their parents say or do, unfortunately. This was definately not a mummy knows best scenario, they started all the hoo hah before the AO a couple of years ago. What’s he going to do, tell them to shut up and cool it? It’s bad enough competing under media pressure, expectations, top players, imagine what it’s like if it comes from home too. In all honesty, his parents were a total embarrassment at one time and imo certainly seeking the limelight on the back of their son. They seem to have got the message now, thank goodness.
I’m not comparing Novak to anyone right now, past or present, but let’s put it this way, current rankings don’t lie or are fake, magic carpets only belong in story books..
jennifur said
oh gosh – furrr surre jenny. i know…. so many times ive rolled my eyes at my parents in the past. but what can u do? of course nole luvs his parents and he wud want them 2 b at big matches 2 support him. his brothers seem sweet. i dont think nole shud b faulted 4 the foibles of his ma & pa. we dont choose our families.
Claire said
I agree with u on that about parents – my parents drove me crazy and I know my son feels the same about me. Circle of life. I think the same goes for children! A couple of my friends are truly wonderful people and their children have given them much heartache!
Seems these days with people not living close to family – friends do become like family and family becomes like strangers! .

Jennifur:
First of all, I am not so sure about separating progeniture from forebearer. Usually, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. It’s not hate; I don’t care for his game which is about as inspiring as a bag of frozen vegetables. Not that Murray is any better. I grant you he has improved; he’s become fitter, smarter, and shows poise. But it’s about time, don’t you think. After all, according to mommy, he’s been ruling the tennis world since January 2008. I just dislike his monotonous style and the showboating that comes along. If you’re that good, dazzle us, and for the right reasons. Not because you’re trying to outdo Allen Iverson and bounce the ball 20 times or because you’re auditioning for the Godfather IV and you have to hug everyone at the net, especially your worst enemies.
Boxingary:
You’re right. He’s more accomplished than Kraijcek ever was.
