Former No. 1 Ivanovic hires Graf’s former coach. Really?

Posted by tennisplanet on February 23, 2010

AND Chakvetadze hired Justine’s coach…………..

There’s hardly an instance where adding a coach suddenly shot ANY athlete’s performance to stratospheric levels – from the abysmal rock Ivanovic’s has been parked ever since she hit the scene.

Expecting a coach to orchestrate a quantum jump is being illiterate of history.

So what’s the solution: A generous shot of testosterone – partly to generate some fight in her and partly to ensure a generous growth of moustache and a beard to deflate the ‘Hollywood’ bug.

Hasn’t she heard of the Williams sisters? Who is their coach? Lady (even that’s not confirmed yet) with a mop on her head and a clean upper lip.

Love of a sport versus turning pro.

Posted by tennisplanet on February 23, 2010

I think ‘love of the sport’ is what gets you going, but the moment you turn pro, the whole deal takes on the ‘job’ persona, don’t you think?

I mean, you will enjoy tennis in much greater degree at a public court against your friend. Even though winning the match clearly is in the equation, it cannot even think of reaching the proportions a pro NEEDS to win the match thereby sapping the ‘love of the game’ considerably – comparatively.

It appears the love of competition and the high / low you get over every win / loss since so much is riding on it, takes over the ‘love of sport’ significantly the moment pro is added to your name.

That could be one way to explain Agassi ‘hating’ tennis yet raking eight freaking Slams.

Sure, Jordan must love basketball but playing where the pressure to perform is so intense and price to pay when you fail so steep, any ‘I play because I love the game’ BS goes out the door – at least from the top bracket of reasons motivating you.

It’s a freaking job which is now fueled by your competitive juices primarily, instead of your passion for the game.

Isn’t it every freaking coach’s job to remind his pupil of where negative body language inevitably takes you? Or just releasing the tension trumps winning? Geeezzzzzz!!!!!

How is this helping anything – even if it’s real pain?
