Happy birthday to Jessica: August 24.
Posted by tennisplanet on August 24, 2010

Hi TP,
It took me some time to find out how people get pics and birthdaycakes etc. and now I discovered it.
Of course I am gonna tell you my birthday is on August 24th.
But the celebration will be on June 7th, when Roger will win Roland Garros.
Always been the biggest fan Mats Wilander ever had, so if I may do a request: anything from Mats is ok.
Thanks so much and keep up the good work!
Jess

Do you watch for how well the ball is hit when it’s dead? Sure you do!!!!!
Posted by tennisplanet on August 23, 2010
For freaks still scratching their……….head, I am talking about a dead ball that has to be hit by a player to reach the ball kid. With their skill, shouldn’t every ball reach the ball kid with him having to not even move an inch? Heck, there should be a point penalty if not.
Here’s one for freaks still drooling from yesterday:

Make a point to enjoy the last Slam of the season fully.

Take time off from your miserable job and life, put everything on hold, set yourself in front of a TV or computer screen with Vaseline, junk food, magazines, music, blow ups or whatever else you perverts desire and have the time of your life while forgetting everything else – for about ten freaking days. Paste the TV schedule where you can see it everyday along with the copy of the draw that you update after every freaking match and come out after this ten-day hiatus refreshed and charged.
For those in ‘difficult’ time zones, make the whole freaking exercise fun like camping or vacationing. It’s a great excuse to break the cycle for ten freaking days and finally discover what the world looks like at dawn.
Shake things up and give yourself a treat and an opportunity to pamper YOU – for a change.

SERGEANT
Hi guys. A few top 10 standings going into the US open (as of 23.08.2010)
The usual ATP rankings (source: atpworldtour website)
Rank – Name & Nationality – Points – Position Moved
1 – Nadal, Rafael (ESP) – 10,745 – 0
2 – Federer, Roger (SUI) – 7,215 – 0
3 – Djokovic, Novak (SRB) – 6,665 – 0
4 – Murray, Andy (GBR) – 5,125 – 0
5 – Soderling, Robin (SWE) – 4,910 – 0
6 – Davydenko, Nikolay (RUS) – 4,285 – 0
7 – Berdych, Tomas (CZE) – 3,860 – 0
8 – Verdasco, Fernando (ESP) – 3,430 – 0
9 – Roddick, Andy (USA) – 3,225 – +4
10 – Del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG) – 3,170 – -1
Not much movement there. Roddick back to the top 10. Nadal still well ahead of Federer.
Battle for London (source: barclaysatpworldtourfinals website)
Rank – Name – Points
1 – Nadal – 8,840 (qualified)
2 – Federer – 5,305

8 – Ferrer – 2,820
9 – Verdasco – 2,780
10 – Tsonga – 2,075
11 – Melzer – 2,040
I included Melzer because I found it very interesting to see him so high at both singles and doubles. He is standing at 4th place in the doubles battle for London. Has a player ever qualified to both singles and doubles world tour finals?

Chicago Fan’s report from Cincinnati. Thanks.
Posted by tennisplanet on August 23, 2010
CHICAGO FAN
Hi All,
I was in Cincinnati this weekend, and I saw Federer play twice–in the semi-final and the final.
It was surreal to be sitting there watching one of my tennis heroes. It was amazing actually! If you haven’t gone to an actual tournament, I highly recommend it. It’s completely different to see a match live.
The final was surprisingly close. Mardy played well, but in the end he was outmatched.
Roger is every bit as charming and gracious as you would expect. The Bryan brothers were quite nice as well.
The only thing that was missing was that Rafa failed to beat Baghdatis. If he had won, then I would have had a chance to see Rafa play Roger, which would have made a great trip extraordinary!
Have a great week!

Federer gives his fans the joy they were starving for.
Posted by tennisplanet on August 22, 2010
Federer fans have waited long and hard for this moment. Ever since he won the AO title in January, it has been an agonizing road for them with Federer faltering over and over again. Despite some serious bashing their idol took during this time, Federer fans, for the most part, maintained their composure by being accepting of others who came through to win titles in the last few months.
They never stopped believing relying on history to keep their hopes alive as most greats in the past continued to shine into their late twenties. They have been rewarded for their patience and their determination to stick with their idol through lean times. With hopes of Federer rebounding fading with every tournament he played and lost, these fans refused to jump the bandwagon making this win a collective win for many people around the world.
While there were some extenuating circumstances dictating this win, Federer’s form starting from Toronto more than justifies the victory in Cincy. He appears to have regained most of his touch and is peaking at just the right time for the final Slam of the year. The confidence from this win alone will add a whole new dimension to the already fast-improving aspects of his overall game.
But most importantly Federer fans deserve credit for sticking with their man through all the adversity – an attribute that may have played a significant part in Federer reclaiming his rightful place on the tour.

REAL reason for Federer’s resurgence.
Posted by tennisplanet on August 22, 2010
Have a clue? No, you don’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here it is: He hit rock bottom @ Wimbledon. Not only did he not make the semis, he lost in four sets (which means he won just ONE set the entire match) to Berdych – on grass. Not enough? Not only did Berdych fail to win the title even after taking out Djokovic in the next round in straight sets, he was ‘like totally’ mauled by Nadal in the final – in straight sets. And the last one requires its own pedestal: Nadal won, of all the freaking people.
That was hard enough, but the effect was further exacerbated by the vacation that ensued. That free time made him marinate in those juices long enough to drive him to a place called rock freaking bottom.
It’s not that Federer suddenly became a better player overnight. All this form was always there waiting impatiently for that kick in the pants to resurrect itself. Talk about game being mental. All other BS about Anaconda joining or leaving are mere logistics making the current run appear logical and reasonable when in reality it’s the most minor impetus driving the truck today.
Moving forward this fire will only find more fuel to burn even more ferociously IF this following attribute continues to present itself consistently: Nadal winning Slams.
Downside? Well, this kind of motivation thrives on a single spark generated at the point of contact with that rock. The upward mobility then needs to find its own power source to make progress AND sustain it. But it’s a great start following months of languishing.
