      Vitas Gerulaitis! in 1994?
I googled it – would never have known that myself.
Monique,I’m impressed that you know that!
      Gerulaitis won AO in 1977!

Nice one Monique. Claire, the news of Vitas’ death made it quite a way across the world at the time. Apparently was asphyxiation from an odourless gas that was in the room – I believe from a faulty air con unit and happened while he was asleep. Not so nice, and a shame to not have the vibrant personality of him around anymore.

      • monique said

Yes, carbon monoxyde. We should try to find some more, it’s fun.

      • Gracie said

Everyone ought to remember Vitas’ death. It’s the reason we all have CO2 detectors in our houses today in the US.

I did not any of these. I shall find out more also from the internet. BTW if a linesman die that way would his family be compensated for he died on the job!! I hope so.

    another one for you.
Who played iin a Wimbledon final. Neveer lost his serve in the whole match yet lost the match?

  6. monique said

I found an interesting one; Which 2 Americans were in the Final at the French Open in 1991 and who won the trophy ?

  7. monique said

    Ahhhh….too easy…lol

  8. monique said

Ahhh….ok what is the slam that you know the less ? haha

LOL Probably US Open, Australian – but I do try to keep up to speed on all surfaces. I just love good tennis whoever and wherever played, so really at the end of the day it doesn’t matter too much. I probably watch more red clay court tournies outside the clay Masters and FO than most folks here, as I tend to follow the players who enjoy, and are good on that surface. LOL It must be the war of attrition and tactics I like, very few quick points or aces. Obviously Wimbledon and grass tourney are favourites too.

Pete Sampras defeated………….at Wimbledon 2000 and in how many sets? Who is the guy ?

    • Somebody Else said

      Pete won Wimbledon 2000.

Do you mean US Open 2000? (final: lost to Safin in 3 sets)
or Wimbledon 2001? (4th rd.: lost to Federer in 5 sets)

    • monique said

I meant, who was the guy that Samprass defeated at Wimbledon in 2000 and in how many sets ? I am sorry if I did not make it clear. My language is French……lol

      • Somebody Else said

        oh, forgive me, I misunderstood.

        In 2000 he beat Rafter.
Not sure at the moment if it was in 4 or 5 sets.
I’m thinking 4, because the next year Rafter lost to Ivanisevic in 5 sets.

I will say he beat Rafter in 4, but not sure.

      • monique said

Congrats, you are right. My God, I will have to find harder ones. lol

You picked a good question here.
I’m going down a mental list of winners and finalists in the 70s.

I’m thinking of other players like Nastase, Kodes.
    Hmmmm, clay guy… lemme think.

I saw an interview a while ago and there was a player who said that but I don’t remember who it was. I will guess Djokovic or De Potro.

I am back from tennis and if I say so myself, my game was awesome. I have been playing badly for a while so I played only once in 2 weeks and I watched tennis on TV so this break was beneficial for me. I think it helps me in my game when I watch tennis. I had to tell someone. It gives you so much confidence when you play well.Going to watch the final soon. Do not care who wins but I like a good tennis match.

      • Jenny said

Hear you Monique! I was never good at the game, swimming was more my thing, but I can appreciate how you feel. Let’s hope for a competitive final, but I will be rooting for Roger.
