Next Wall Of Fame contest.

Posted by tennisplanet on November 19, 2009

It’s a four-part question. It requires immense concentration from lazy freaks like you. So put that hand down – or up to fully understand.

1. Who will win the title at London?

2. How many sets will he need to win the finals?

3. What will be the score in the finals? Closest to the actual numbers will win.

4. Write a one liner or more as to why you think he will win? Like Soderling will win because he deserves it – or some such BS. If the first three answers are identical, your creativity, humor etc. on this will break the tie. Maybe I will poll the response.

And you can’t double, triple freaking dip. Just one answer. If you do make changes only your first response will be considered. So look at the numbers etc. before you vote. Cut off: Nov 21.

For mentally challenged toddlers here’s what your answer will look like (Just copy, paste and answer):

1. Verdasco.

2. Three sets.

3. 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

4. Verdasco will win because he is still not yet done tormenting Ivanovic for the dumping.

Since this is a tough question, should I include a small prize for the winner? Like a DVD player.

Can’t be 2 sets, of course if Federer’s opponent may say after 2 sets, there is no way and Federer’s opponent will retire to get going on that Christmas shopping!!! 🙂
      Final is best of 5

What do you consider a “real” prize and how would you deliver?? I think the prize the most of us would like and wouldn’t mind sharing with everyone is some deep, dark secret about yourself – one that doesn’t involve the “goats”!

  11. Claire said

Do we always have to ask for a special thread for each tournament?? We need one by Sunday; TMC finally starts!

  12. Dee said

My answer is a question for -Should I give out a real prize for this question? – HOW?

  13. Dee said

    1. Federer
    4.Because he is Federer

  14. ricky said

    1. Federer
    2. 2 sets
    3. 7/5 6/4
    4. Because I wish so.

  15. Sol said

I don’t see Roger doing it, unfortunately. so I’ll say
    1. Djokovic
    2. 3 sets
    3. 7/5 6/7 6/2
    4. Because everyone else will be either too tired or too overwhelmed by the event (Sod, Verdasco and Murray)

  16. Jenny said

Not sure about Roger at this stage, but you can never rule him out or indeed anyone, it’s open. I’m looking more towards Djokovic and/or Davydenko reaching the final. LOL That’s all I’m prepared to say!

  17. kitty said

    1. Soderling
    2. 3 sets
    3. 7-5,3-6,6-2
    4. Because underdogs will rule the minnow world in the future

  18. DK said

Though not exactly to the format required, I can’t help but quote from another forum. The poster’s handle is kowarrior:

“YEC will be Federer vs Nadal in the finals with Nalbandian climbing down from the roof and beating them both in an unprecedented 2 on 1 match and taking the cup, marking his return!”

    • Jenny said

“YEC will be Federer vs Nadal in the finals with Nalbandian climbing down from the roof and beating them both in an unprecedented 2 on 1 match and taking the cup, marking his return!”

      Love the thought!

  19. Sergeant said

    1. Del Potro
    2. 2.5 sets
    3. 1-6 7-6 3-0 (opponent retires)
    4. Del Potro will win because TP chose Verdasco, Blake chose Nadal, Zihwye chose Murray, Claire chose Davydenko, Kitty chose Soderling, Stella and Sol chose Djokovic, the rest is choosing Federer, and nobody ever wins these prediction contests.

    • Sergeant said

What have I done? Now an alternate will win London!

    • zihwye said

      • Sergeant said

🙂 Thank you, Zihwye. I remember nobody won this contest last year. I wondered why, so I just went to check. The reason was that last year TP asked for both finalists and the winner. That makes it 56 different possible answers! I also saw you were one of the few who correctly predicted Djokovic as the winner!

  20. Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi said

Federer over Nadal in 3 or vice verca

  21. jennifur said

    1. the scot
    2. 3 sets – must allow 4 concentration lapse + drama
    3. 6-2, 1-6, 7-6
    4. coz he’ll b drawn and freakin quartered if he doesnt win. fur sure!

  22. tchophel said

    1. Verdasco
    2. 3 Sets
    3. 6-0, 0-6, 6-0
    4. Ever seen what Verdasco did on a deuce/breakpoint VS Stepanek (not even a big tournament and worse Verdasco lost that match)… Verdasco will win so that he can do what he did in that match and not look utterly ridiculous

  23. chieko said

    I wish that

    1. Federer san wins.
    2. 3 sets
    3. because I am his fan.

    Thank you.

    • TheHumbleOne said

      Dear Chieko-san,
I am sorry, I think you made a mistake with your scores; Ivo Karlovic didn’t get into THIS tournament…! 🙂

  24. banti said

    1. The Djoker
    2. 3 sets
    3. 6-4,4-6,6-4
    4. I can’t remember not picking Roger to win something. But he’s in lala land with the kids and all. He doesn’t really care to much for this tourney, or he wouldn’t have lost to Simon last year! I don’t see Roger making the semi’s actually. Picking Novak vs Murray. Djoker spoils the fun.

  25. O said

Prediction: Murray will not make the semifinals, I think Federer and Delpo will beat him.

  26. Bjornino said

I think the winner should get one of your goats, TP 😛

I am too tired to answer the questions right now, will have to do it tomorrow ^^

  27. TheHumbleOne said

    Okay, the winner is…
    1. Novak Djokovic
    2. Straight sets
    3. 6-4,6-4
    4. Djokovic is really getting into a “zone” now, is looking physically stronger than many of the others, and has a whole new comfort level with his racquet (with a good year under his belt now). Confidence stemming from his last two tourneys won as well as wins over many of his foes playing here will carry him through to victory!

  28. Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi said

Have you guys seen the ATP world tour pics of the players? All nattily attired and looking sharp. I would have thought the ladies would have something to say abut it, but I guess they’re still drooling

  29. Dude said

    2)In 2 sets

    3)Scoreline 6-3 6-3

4)What might the losing finalist say during the presentation :

” The grass is always greener on the other side !! ”

The losing finalist is most likely to be from South America…..

*I hope my post is in time !

  30. Serran said

    1. Federer
    2. 3 Sets
    3. 6-2 6-7 6-4
    4. Because I’m traveling all the way to London just to watch him play and the tickets were oh so pricey, so he better goddamn win it.

    • Jenny said

Enjoy your time in London, Serran. Get to go on the ‘Eye’ if you can, but you need clear skies to see anything. Weather fairly mild here at the moment, but it has been wet and very windy, it’s forecast to get colder.

      • Serran said

Wow, thanks for the info Jenny!

I will be there from Thursday evening until Sunday afternoon, but I only have tickets for the Saturday sessions (both SF’s).

I’ve been to London two times before, and loved every minute of it. Maybe we could have a beer in the city if you feel like it! 😉

  31. Michael said

    1. Djokovic.

    2. Four sets.

    3. 7-6, 6-4, 5-5, 6-3.

    4. He possesses two most important winning qualities on the tour: talent and intellect.

  32. mgasol said

    1. Del Potro

    2. 3 sets

    3. 4-6, 7-6, 6-3

    4. He will win because I said so.

  33. Bjornino said

I wish I could write Nadal and answer no. 4 with: “Just because he’s Nadal and because he’ll do the same thing that he did in January: Win the big one when noone expects him to.” But I just don’t see it happening. Thus my answers are:

    1. Djokovic

    2. 3 sets

    3. 6-3, 2-6, 7-6

    4. He will win because he plays better than anyone else at the moment and because of the work Todd Martin has done with him on his game and on his mental attitude.

(And NB: I posted this 36 mins before the first match starts on Sunday so I should be eligible to compete! 🙂 )

  34. rogerfanusa said

    1. Murray

    2. 2 sets defeats Djokovic

    3. 6-4, 7-5

    4. No way Fed’s going to be able to pull this out, as much as I want him to. Nadal shouldn’t even be playing, he should take more time off. Davydenko and Soderling should “just be happy to be there.” Verdasco- not enough experience playing with the big guys. Del Potro is going to be so close, but come away wishing he had played as well as he did at the US Open.

  35. Michael said

    After first round some things become more cer;

    1) Semifinal will be:
    – Murray vs Davidenko
    – Federer vs Djokovic
    2) Final:
    Davidenko vs Djokovic

Simple as that. The winner will be Davidenko

    • Michael said

We have to observe the symbols. Sometimes it points to the outcome. Exchange of T-shirts at the end of match is obvious one.

bummer. Nole didn’t make it . There goes my Wall of Fame listing

  39. Big Sister said

Wow, Claire and Michael, you made great predictions! Even though Davydenko made the Finals here last year, he was really overlooked in this field. I am happy for him. Especially as ROger still gets to be the year-end #1.

    • Jenny said

LOL I just noticed that, Claire and Michael!

    • Sol said

Good call, Claire and Michael. They, along with Serran, deserve a goat or two from TP’s basement. Congrats!

      • Claire said

I just saw Davydenko won! I didn’t know Tennis Channel was showing it tape delayed!! It starts at 1pm so thought they played in the evening!

I really did believe Davydenko would win – I firmly believed that as the tournament went on!
Congrats Davydenko. If Davydenko jumped up to give his wife a kiss – I become winner and Michael #2!!
I listed my reason Davydenko would win – “Davydenko’s wife wants to see if Davydenko can jump even higher this time”

No Sol – i don’t want a GOAT! The only GOAT I would want to meet is Roger Federer! TP,Can you arrange that??

I think Michael and I should be able to ask you one personal question – and you have to promise you will give a “reality” answer!

  40. Claire said

    Above – “….ask you…” I mean “TP” when I said “you”

    • Claire said

      Thank you TP. 🙂 🙂 🙂

NOW can I ask you a personal question and get a real answer. Pretty please!

Thumbs up by Davydenko’s wife was so nice – nice kiss too! 🙂

  42. Bettyjane said

    Congrats Claire!!! Very well done.

  43. banti said
