2010 won’t be a career slam for Rafa, he retired against Murray in Australia. I gather he isn’t playing in Canada, so Cincy it is.

Am I right in thinking that career slam means winning all four GS titles regardless of when. In that case Federer got his after the FO 2009 and Nadal is still in with a shout at the US???

Ash, yes I would agree if it’s a career slam, the key word being ‘career’, that makes sense, and the opportunity for Rafa is still there if he wins the US Open this year or in the future. Fed has it already. I know the Grand Slam is all 4 slams in a year which is probably what I was initially thinking of.

I guess it was rumour Rafa was skipping Toronto? M, do you know what’s happening?

Jenny, it’s the strangest thing. No announcement on Marca.com, and his site has an announcement dated August 3 that the Toronto crowds can look forward to doubles from him and Marc Lopez. So … still not sure. Maybe just doubles? Maybe an announcement later today?

(Not even the Shadow knows … 😛 )

Thanks M. I try to keep up with these things and I was getting confused myself. Actually I visited Rafa’s site and read the same as you. As it’s a mandatory 1000 event unless injured, surely he wouldn’t play doubs with Marc? The official tourney site says nothing.

According to Nadal News and a video on Spanish TV (ib3) today, Nadal will arrive with p/t coach Roig and doubles partner M. Lopez in Toronto tomorrow.

At Nadal News and SI.com, also found out that SI’s Wertheim has been quite busy spreading info about Nadal across the tennis landscape these past two weeks. In a nutshell:

    1. Nadal has no religious faith – info a couple of weeks ago based on an interview after Wimbleton.
    2. Nadal has been palling around with terrorists – info a couple of days ago based on a bogus article on the web.

Didn’t know Wertheim came from Alaska.

Thanks, Librio, I’m pleased Rafa is competing in Toronto. I haven’t heard/read what Wertheim had to say, but given your comment, 1 and 2, it sounds pretty pathetic to me. Do you have any more info, Librio?

        Hi Jenny.

Yes, pathetic and freakingly dangerous nonsense! Listen, I’m tied up at work today – will look up the links and indicate them later today or whenever.

News from Nadal from the guys at work: he’ll be in Toronto today, he’s participating in the draw bit in Toronto tomorrow, and it looks like it’s teaming up with Djokovic for doubles in Toronto. That should be fun!

        See you later.

OK, found 2 links. The threads and comments thereon will give you the overall Wertheim’s picture here.

        WTF? Terrorists? Is Wertheim insane?

And what if he didn’t have any religious faith. So what?

I heard about Nadal/Djoko pairing up for the doubs in Toronto. Any ideas about who came up with that idea and why?

Hi Librio, thanks – at your convenience. I’m sure many of us would be curious to read that nonsense!

Jenny, I posted 2 links earlier but my post didn’t get through. Maybe it got stuck with WordPress because of the links (it happens quite often at numerous places managed through WordPress).

I’ll just copy/paste my previous post without the links themselves.

Thanks, Librio. I really don’t know why these hacks have to bring God and faith into this. I agree with Sol. The other stuff is just bizarre.
