Nole v. David *is* going to be very interesting, TP.

But Murray v. Gulbis … it really depends on which Andy (and which Ernests, for that matter) shows up, doesn’t it?

Nole v David: David has to play incredibly to win from the baseline. I see them breaking each others serves often in this one.

Murray v Gulbis: i’ll be impressed if Gulbis takes it to 3 sets.

        Thank you, Banti.

I don’t think David and Nole have even met that often. Do you happen to know their H2H?

M its 3:1 Novak. There 1:1 on hard courts. Novak’s beaten him easily though last two encounters, I see Nalby being super pumped up for this one.

Novak is not playing well this summer. I know he got to the semis in Toronto but that first set was UGLY. He needs a new coach. He can keep Vaijda as a friend, but he needs a) a sports psychologist to help him with his head and b)a coach to help him with shot selection. He’s got the strokes, the best in the game in my opinion, but he needs to stop that foolish drop shotting when he’s bored with the point.

Nalbandian single handedly took Argentina to the Davis Cup Semis — he is not a player to take lightly.

You’re right M, but I’d add in which Djokovic shows up.
Nalbandian is always Nalbandian. He’ll win unless the other fellow refuses to.

I can’t remember the last time the Rd. of 16 at a Masters was this intriguing. Lot of mouthwatering matches that that look more like quarter or semifinal type matches. I wish all these guys the best of luck. It could be a LONG, dramatic day of tennis ahead.

Their H2H is officially 3-1 to Nole. They were even in 2007, both beating each other 1-1 on a hard court, Madrid [Nalby] and Canada [Nole]. Nole beat Nalby at Queens 6-1 6-0 in 2008, not really a true measure of competition. I saw that match, Nalby was half dead with a virus, his hip was probably hurting too and he didn’t look fit to play, he was coughing and spluttering throughout, it was a gift, I think Nole knew he was lucky. Nole was taken out by Rafa in the final. Nole was the winner in Monte this year. Basically I would say they were even, both were fully fit in 2007.

Hard to call. They can both beat each other tennis-wise, the winner will be the one who doesn’t beat himself!
