Possible outcomes at US Open now.

Posted by tennisplanet on September 6, 2010

Nadal: Wins Slam No. 9 and completes career Slam erasing the ‘clay specialist’ label from his resume – temporarily. Reaching No. 14 at least if not 16, becomes a very real possibility.

Federer: Wins Slam No. 17 dealing a devastating blow to Nadal’s hopes of ever matching or passing Federer for that number. Passes both Connors and Sampras by bagging No 6 here.

Djokovic: Gets sweet revenge on Roddick by taking down the ‘one Slam wonder’ placard from his neck. With his recent showing on clay for the last two years, the possibility of a career Slam may begin to prosper.

Soderling: Wins his first Slam filling the void being vacated amongst the top five.

You got more? No, you don’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Federer – 7215 – 1,200 + 360 = 6,375
    Soderling – 4,910 – 360 + 2,000 = 6,550

o.k. this is what round Federer and Djokoic have to win to be safe from losing ranking if Soderling wins:

    Federer now has 7,215 – 1,200 + 180 = 6,195

    Djokovic – 6,665 – 720 + 180 = 6,125

    Soderling – 4,910 – 360 + 180 = 4,730

Given that Federer and Djokovi will definitely have 6,125 and 6,125 points after winning round of 16.

Now Soderling can’t even lose in final to take Federer or Nadal’s spot. He would have to win the uso. 4,910 -360 + 2,000 = 6,550 to surpass Federer and Djokovic to become #2.
    If Soderling loses in Final = 4,910 – 360 +1,200 =5,750

In other words if Federer and Djokovic don’t win they next match they will have 6,195 and 6,125 points. As you can see if Soderling loses in final he still won’t pass Fed and Djokovic! He needs those extra 800 points by winning uso to go ahead. Any thing less than final he will not get # 1 or 2 spot because Federer and Djokovic have already secured their #1 and #2 spot by winning in round of 16.
    Even if he makes loses in final – 4,910 – 360 + 1,200 = 5,750

Claire, is it YOU…or is it ME…that’s not getting this?

      High Truth # 1:
If Soderling wins the whole enchilada,
      he ends up with 6,550 [ 4,910 – 360 + 2,000 ]

      High Truth # 2:
If Soderling wins the whole enchilada,
that means he beats Federer tonight,
      so Roger ends up with 6,375 [ 7,215 – 1,200 + 360 ]

      High Truth # 3:
If Soderling wins the whole enchilada,
that means he beats Djokovic on Saturday,
      so Novak ends up with 6,665 [ 6,665 – 720 + 720 ]

      High Truth # 4:
      Based on High Truths 1-thru-3,
the rankings next Monday would be:
      #1 Nadal 10,000-plus
      #2 Djokovic 6,665
      #3 Soderling 6,550
      #4 Federer 6,375
