    LOL! Funniest pic!! 😆 😆

As much as I hate to admit it, I am starting to warm towards Djokovic a little bit lately. I hope he can remove the ‘one-slam-wonder’ title from his name one of these days.

    Great pictures. Thanks.

I have a few questions which I hope someone (maybe TP can answer).

Help me out with the “one slam wonder” title. I’m not much of a tennis historian. What’s the onus on “one slam” when so many players win none? If Del Po doesn’t win another, will he be given a pass because of his wrist? Going into the Open, nobody mentioned Djokovic (he WAS playing AWFUL) and building up Murray. Why? I like Murray, but I don’t understand the hype around him. Do finals count? Djokovic has been in three slam finals and winning one — is that the reason he’s such a disappointment to commentators and some here at TP? Not being contrarian; just don’t understand. What player other than Nadal and Federer wouldn’t revel in having one slam?

Unfortunately, as far as the media is concerned, some faces fit more than others, I’ve never understood it myself, but there you go. That said, a few years ago Nole himself caused much of the negative media backlash, it’s all been said before, I criticised him too and I like the guy and his tennis. He’s improved in everything, his fighting spirit and desire, so hopefully the media will be more positive from now on. I don’t know when or where the ‘one slam wonder’ tag came from. Not a ‘title’ I would ever use, I think it’s disrespectful to all those great players who have won it, winning one slam is tough enough.

I agree Jenny, Novak was not my favorite, but he’s been growing on me as of late. He’s matured nicely, and so has his parents. Makes liking him much easier.

I think pundits were tipping Murray to win the USO this year for several reasons:
      1) He successfully defended his Canadian Masters title this hc season, beating both Rafa & Fed along the way, so he was looking strong
      2) He was the only guy among the top 4 who didn’t have a Slam, so they figured he was extra-hungry enough to win one
      3) The draw seemed favorable, with DelPo out, Fed & Rafa vulnerable, Novak unfocused

Do finals count? IMHO, definitely. Like Fed has said, if you can reach the finals, you can certainly win the title. Murray has been a hardcourt Slam finalist twice (another reason they thought he might take USO.)

      One-slam wonder
I totally agree with you & Jenny that it’s disrespectful, likely coined by someone who has never played pro tennis.

Seconded on the a bit “tactless” one hit wonder label. There are players like Goran Ivanisevic who has been a runner up since 1992 or so and finally managed to be the champion in his last appearance as a tennis pro back in 2001 at Wimbledon. Thats quite an achievement for a player like him and it goes to show that the GS winning trophy is for just any players with strong resilience and determinations other than the spaniard and the swiss (who is also half south african).

    Do players fudge their height?

Djokovic is listed as 6″2″, Rafa at 6’1″ yet unless this is camera angle, Djokovic is actually about two or three inches taller than Rafa.

Rafa prolly need to learn to really stand up straight or otherwise, he will be sent off to a “swiss finishing school” haha…yea he is actually a 6ft 1 but he prolly just hunched a bit. He looked slightly shorter standing in the photo next to Roger too though they both share the same height measure especially when he’s in his relaxed mode.

Stick a book on your head, or pretend it’s there, Rafa 🙂 Mind you, Rafa and David can both look round shouldered at times.

LOL. I always think that when it looks like Rafa might be slouching in a photo.
He was standing with one foot out in front of the other in some of the pictures with Nole — yes, I stayed to the very end 🙂 — and that can shorten you in a full-on photo taken from the front.
