Hey, TP – there’s no “Rafa will win a close match” option?

  2. Bettyjane said

Well I see that Delpo was defeated in the first round today by Rochus.

Thnx, Bettyjane, pity I missed it. Did you see the match? Ollie can be quite the formidable talented dynamo and probably one of the last players Delpo would have wanted to meet coming back from injury and in the first round, he would have had him moving all over the place.

Stats: 7-6 6-4. Delpo fired 16 aces, Rochus fired zero and still won. Rochus 64% on 2nd serve return, that would be a killer, I wonder what the net play stats were.

Unfortunately I didn’t see it either. Looks like Delpo couldn’t make anything happen on the second serve of Rochus from the stats. Hopefully someone here saw the match and can fill in the blanks.

Inverse math: 5’5″ > 6’6″! Geez! Large is not always better! This brings hope to men and Rhianna is proven wrong! LOL. Size DOES NOT matter! Period. A fit “small” guy can outplay a “big” lazy one. LOL.

RafaFan, I’ve made no secret of my admiration for the smaller players on the tour, they have to work that much harder and rarely get easy points. To be fair, expecting Delpo to win matches at this stage is too much to ask, so the result didn’t surprise me.

The 5’4″, 40yr old Date Krumm has just beaten the near 6’0″, 27yr old Daniela Hantuchova – 2-6 6-0 40 retired.

Unbelievable! We can have some hope for Federer @29 and counting! Btw, doesn’t “Krumm” mean crooked in German? LOL

Not sure what happened. I mean i’m sure Delpo’s coach had him tape up his wrist and had him running circles to keep his movement (best of any big man by far) in check. Not sure when he exactly started hitting the ball, but I’m thinking its been a few months, so he should have been ready.

Maybe he needs a few more practice weeks and he’ll do better in Japan. The field in Japan should make it a more interesting tournament to watch.

What’s up with Roger? When will we see him again? Shanghai?

    • chieko said

Yes I think it is Shanghai too.

Banti, I’m sure Delpo has been working off court, but he isn’t match tough, especially when facing a talented player like Rochus who’s going to go at him guns blazing and exploit any weakness or rustiness, which according to the stats, that’s exactly what he did.

      • banti said

I guess Jenny but as a former top 5 its a bit unexpected, to say he wasn’t match tough. We’ll see how he does in a few weeks, but from what it looks like we may not see Delpo as we know him till early next year.

‘from what it looks like we may not see Delpo as we know him till early next year’

I would agree, Banti. He’s also got to get his confidence back.

        Wow. No mercy.
I wouldn’t have expected any, because it is professional tennis, and it is a match, but …

        wow.

RafaFan – Yes, “krumm” in German means crooked!

DelPo is out in first round! 😦 So if Nadal wins, we can say because he didn’t have to play DelPotro – “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

I don’t see Nadal on schedule of play? Shouldn’t he play tomorrow, Wednesday the 29th???
