Is tennis due for a name change – to Tie-break?

Posted by tennisplanet on August 28, 2007

With the advent of Karlovic, Isner, Querrey etc. tennis appears to be headed the wrong direction.

With whatever little success these clowns have had on the tour, it is bound to encourage other freaks of nature to enter the tennis world soon. Then what? It will be down to a tie-break?

It will be almost impossible to break anyone’s serve soon. Is that what’s coming up on the horizon? So we are evolving from the wooden rackets, to touch and feely tennis, to serve and volley to power tennis to tie-break tennis?

If you any doubt, look at the match stats of any of these jokers. They are full of tie-breaks. And the amazing part is, that even Federer was helpless against Karlovic and had to win in two tie-breaks at Montreal.

If they cannot be broken by the best in the game, they are more than half way there. All they have to do, is tweek just a small part of their game, to somehow get a break and it’s over.

Although Karlovic lost today in five sets, it appears the trend is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Either the ATP has to recognize this early and tweek the rule book ,or change the name to Tie-break.
