Some interesting tidbits on Toronto.

Posted by tennisplanet on August 15, 2010

-Murray became the first man to repeat as champion since Andre Agassi in 1995.

-Murray broke Federer twice in the first 10 minutes.

-Federer returned to No. 2 rank.

-Djokovic played the first match where the result, instead of moving him up the rank (three times) was actually going to bump him down.

-Nadal’s first event in his quest for a career Slam fell short by more than a mile.

-Murray won his first title of the season.

-Federer now has 11 losses this season in 12 tournaments, with just 6 more to go. This was the 11th different player Federer has lost to.

-Murray’s H2H against Federer now: 7-5.

You got more? No, you don’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who should be hurting the most after this Murray win?

Posted by tennisplanet on August 15, 2010

Nadal? Duh!!!!!!

He was so thoroughly outplayed by Murray that any hope of winning another title for the rest of the season not only vanished, it may take a while to come back. If that wasn’t enough, off-form Federer’s relatively close showing against Murray did the rest to seal the deal.

Granted its his least favorite surface but it appears this time Nadal may have met his match on hard courts – forever. There seems a very remote shot of Nadal turning the tables on Murray like he did against Tsonga and Blake back in the dark ages. Nadal has sensed that for a while explaining the over the top celebration he indulged in after that Wimbledon win over Murray.

However, if Nadal and his camp can post a consistent winning record against Murray moving forward, it could prove to be their most crowning achievement since capturing Federer. But until then Murray is taking the spoils – over Nadal.

What’s the ONE most disconcerting factor in Federer’s current return to form?

Posted by tennisplanet on August 15, 2010

Despite two close wins back to back, Federer has plenty to smile about. For starters, both matches were against top ten players in contrast to the tomato cans he has been losing to, of late. The scoreline reflects a steady improvement making the movement far more sustainable and credible instead of that ‘flash in the pan’ kind of total transformation which points to just an aberration.

Close victories like these AFTER the funk feel sweeter than anything you can think of.

But there’s ONE stat that is consistently present to fully declare Federer’s return to the top of his game rather premature. Have a clue? No, you don’t!!!!!!

It’s the unforced error count. Duh!!!!!! He had what 46 against Djokovic and 12 and 36 in the ones before that. Not enough? Most are flowing through the forehand.

But maybe that’s the next stage on his road to recovery. Either way, given where he has been recently Federer cannot complain even if he fails to win this title. It has stopped the bleeding at the very least and begun the recovery at the very best.

Possible reason there’s sexual tension between Mirka and Annacone.

Posted by tennisplanet on August 15, 2010

Picture this:

You are at a tennis game and an old lady comes and sits right next to you. Your first thoughts are of respect and accommodation – mostly – with a rare wander here and there. But that presence / thought is not altering too much in your personality, behavior or physiology.

But now replace that with some hot young chic. Are you freaking getting this? Now, not only is all your blood rushing to a certain area, your stomach is sucked in, your stance has improved, you are making sure your eye brows are all lined up and that rip you were about to go for will have to wait for more ‘solitude’. All this while you are working hard to project on the outside as if nothing is happening.

This is where you make the most use of the peripheral vision to keep track of any ‘lead in’ signs to make a move.

With assisted living patients in Tony Roche and that other old guy from Spain, there was nothing Mirka felt strong enough to fake anything. Now that she has the handsome guy who is the age she should have married in the first place instead of a weak toddler, Mirka has to be conscious at the very least and aroused at the very best.

And to sit there for the entire two freaking hours with that discomfort has to take its toll, sometime giving way to toes ‘accidentally’ brushing against each other to release the tension. Besides, the fact that the two NEVER talk to each other during the entire outing is another indication something is ‘up’.

It’s not like that midget who sits next to Brooklyn Decker. This is the exact pot with a matching lid right next to it. It’s a perfect match.
