What animal does a player[s] remind you of and why? From Jenny. Thanks.

JENNY

TP has given me an idea during the quiet tennis period. What animal does a player[s] remind you of and why. I’m thinking qualities rather than just looks. All species including birds and reptiles, insects, domestic or otherwise, although I can’t imagine fish, maybe some experts might consider it.

What did Nadal achieve with this US Open win vis a vis his rivalry with Federer?

Posted by tennisplanet on September 15, 2010

Even though Nadal’s H2H, his hard court wins (even in a Slam), Wimbledon win over Federer, Olympic medal etc. did kindle the rumblings about his stature versus Federer in the big scheme of things, Federer’s 16 Slams, career Slam, many other nearly insurmountable records AND Nadal’s weak showing on hard courts etc. more than repelled ANY legitimate invasion into the territory solely controlled by Federer.

With this win, the career Slam AND control of three straight Slam on three different surfaces, Nadal may have finally managed to produce something called ‘Doubt‘ with the strongest strain of legitimacy. It’s like his first peg at the base camp of a steep mountain. Whether he will one day scale the entire mound is anyone’s guess but just to be now able to run alongside the brightest train to ever visit tenniskingdom is in itself quite an accomplishment.

Federer has to be wondering what more could he have done to create an ‘unbridgeable’ rift between not just Nadal and him but anybody else – past, present and future. It certainly should make Sampras feel lot less depressed in being run over – within such a short span.

Quiz: Who resembled this creature the most in the entire stadium at the US Open finals?

Big reason Djokovic was such a good sport after losing the US Open finals.

Posted by tennisplanet on September 15, 2010

He is NOT ready to take the next step?

Just barely beating a ‘in poor form’ Federer appeared to have fed his hunger. While the victory celebration may not have reflected the true essence of what Djokovic really felt after beating Federer, it was nevertheless a milestone that he seemed more than content with. Carrying that tired crutch into the finals further stifled the passion needed to win the title. In retrospect, he may have hoped that the rain delay actually hadn’t happened to allow him to defend the lopsided loss much more forcefully.

Translation: After the match, Djokovic showed no signs of a competitor who believed he could win the title. Part of it surely was his utmost concern in protecting his brand given how much it has already been battered. Roddick episode and the consequent fan wrath must have played into it too.

It was as if he was in the finals PURELY to win over fans by 1) making a match out of it despite the fatigue and 2) being a good sport after the loss. And he felt he could have achieved both without the rain delay far more effectively.

Not with it yet? Try this: Contrast this with Nadal’s over five-hour match against Verdasco in the semis at the AO (this semifinal at USO Djokovic vs Federer was 3:44) – right before beating Federer in the finals – in five sets AND wait for it …………another FIVE HOURS.

Bottom line: Djokovic cannot allow outside influence to stifle his personality AND game on the court without producing collateral damage. Antidote? Forget about being a nice guy before it’s too late.

Be an ambassador of your favorite player.

How you expose yourself in public reflects on everything you stand for – from as mundane as your name to your city to your country to your race to your profession to your gender to your zodiac sign to whatfreakingever. Haven’t you felt a distance between a person who just has a name of a human that bothered you in the past? Sure you have. How about just the nose? Are you freaking getting the picture?

Bottom line: When you put yourself down you are taking lot more than just yourself with you. Is it unfair? Sure it is. But that’s the way it is.

Conversely when you reverse the process not only are you liked but everything you stand for begins to bask in that glory – sometimes to the extent that past feelings of disdain that you evoke begin to heal and dampen.

They say we ALL are just what four links away from knowing each other personally. Add the globalisation in process today and the need to be a good representative of what you stand for is not just desirable it’s freaking imperative.

Why do you think I always try to be a good model for all basement lunatics, if any, around the globe?
